of the former Technische Hochschule Breslau, which had existed since 1910.
At present, Wroclaw University of Technology (WUT) has 31,936 students studying in Wroclaw and at its three branches located in
the largest towns of the region. WUT employs a staff of almost 4,200 (including 2,035 academic teachers), it has about 250
buildings with modern laboratories, workshops, libraries and large and small lecture theatres, equipped with audio-visual and

New, extremely ambitious tasks have been undertaken by the university, aimed at developing and expanding educational possibilities
as determined by inter-disciplinary sciences, technical progress, economic globalisation and fast access to information. Thus,
WUTs proposed didactic programmes of B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D. and postgraduate studies enable the university not only to pass on
professional knowledge, but also to shape students ability to formulate and solve problems independently.
WUT develops its own research on a large scale, connected not only with the current need to modernise study programmes, but also
with a rich service offering directed toward numerous research and scientific institutions, both national and foreign. The breadth
of the universitys research, educational platforms, projects, expertise and the implementation of all these activities by its
scientists embraces over 600 detailed thematic fields. Research goes on in a broadly developed network of laboratories, workshops
and teams found at all the faculties and university units. It is possible particularly in co-operation
